“Modern” traces the journey of a man and woman from the pastoral, ascetic existence of rural life to the apex of urbanity and back again. They travel in space and time, moving through the ages from a simpler, traditional America through to the emergence of modernism, the proliferation of the city, and the eruption of the urban metropolis that is New York. Through the eyes of the man and woman, the city is in turn massive, imposing, oppressive, monumental and glorious; its momentum and power is impossible to ignore. Upon the man and woman’s final return to their country home, the nature of their vision has irrevocably shifted. Written & directed by Jon Beasley & Isabelle Albuquerque (who also star in the film). Cinematography by Sundance award-winning cinematographer of “Pariah”, Bradford Young. Styled by Natasha Royt.
